Recognition of Dangerous Goods Transportation plates available on the MICROPAK 3

SURVISION has finalized the porting of algorithms of dangerous goods number plates recognition (DGT) on the MICROPAK 3.

SURVISION covers all dangerous goods transportation plates, notably empty plates which identify lorries transporting several dangerous products. This also offers a solution which, in conjunction with number plate recognition, is used to survey roads and tunnels for security purposes (study of vehicles numbers on road networks, detection of incidents in the tunnels, monitoring of authorized vehicles). Connected to a Central Command Point, the Dangerous Goods (DG) cameras allow us to monitor daily traffic and provide information for a system of Automatic Detection of Incidents (ADI) or on a dedicated application such as AUTOFOCUS.

The porting onto MICROPAK 3 allows for an easier implementation of cameras with a fixed-focus lens.

Better secured ANPR sensors for sensitive data

Connected objects in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and car-parks enable parking management companies to improve user safety and experience. However, they can also provide new entry possibilities for a number of risks, such as hacking or theft of sensitive data.

To counteract such threats and ensure continuity of service, SURVISION has reinforced the security of its cameras by adopting the latest IT security standards.

TLS, a secured connection

The implementation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology produces a certificate to authenticate the server receiving the ANPR data and ensure that the connection is made with the correct sensor. The integrity of the network is therefore ensured to ensure the confidentiality and the integrity of the data exchanged on the network.

Cameras protected by passwords

The use of passwords allows us to protect the configuration of cameras and especially the certificates for the TLS protocol.

Protocole 802.1X, a protected local network

This protocol is used notably to protect the Wi-fi networks allowing for a physical access to the network, regardless of which type of support is used for the transmission. The ANPR sensor can be identified on the network to prevent parasite connections.

Asymetric data encription

The ANPR data and the metadonnes from sensors can be crypted to ensure the confidentiality and integrity. the RSA encryptment allows for asymetric cryptage for optimal protection.

However, if during the implementation of security measures, the password or crypting keys are forgotton, the sensor must be returned to the factory to restore the factory settings.

Launch of new MICROPAK 3 sensor

MPK3SURVISION is pleased to announce the launch of the MICROPAK 3 which will replace the MICROPAK 2.

Optimized performance

Aimed, like the MICROPAK 2, mainly at access control and Stop & Go toll applications, the MICROPAK 3 is based on a new ultra-compact platform developed by SURVISION. It offers numerous improvements on the MICROPAK 2.

A high frequency processing (up to 60 images per second) and a high definition optical sensor allows for improved detection and recognition performances, all the while offering a superior coverage width (4 m).

New features are provided, including in particular a high definition, real time, H264 and RTSP video stream, compatible with standard video recorders without requiring any particular integration. The MICROPAK supports new protocols, notably NTP, SFTP and 802.1x to secure data.

The MICROPAK 3 integrates new technologies developed by SURVISION, notably the FingerPrint (plate optical signature) and the DoubleTrigger (activation of the plate reading process according to events internal or external to the sensor).

Easier to install and adjust than the MICROPAK 2 (no Focus adjustment required), the MICROPAK 3 comes with three distance options: 5-9 m, 8-13m and 10-15 meters.

It has the same approvals and certifications as the MICROPAK 2 (EMC EN 55032; IEC 62471…) as well as UL standard related certifications, mainly required in North America.

Unchanged software integration

The MICROPAK 3 requires the use of the SURVISION CDK (Camera Development Kit) made available to integrators three years ago and compatible with the WINDOWS, LINUX x86 and x64platforms. Already developed CDK-based applications are entirely compatible with the MICROPAK 3 as well as with all the cameras of the SURVISION range, regardless of the model or generation.

All SURVISION integrator partners can use the “S” version of the CDK (CDK-S) since November 2017. With this version, they can access the CDK source code, and therefore compile it on any platform.

An even greater optimized mechanical system for smaller dimensions and easier installation

A lighter weight was achieved by using aluminum for the mechanical part. The sensor has a drawer-like design for easy maintenance. The dimensions have also been reduced. Another innovation is that the fixation points which allow for precise adjustment of the gradient thanks to the angle graduation. The MICROPAK 3 has a 24V power supply and can withstand temperatures varying from -40° to +55°.

MICROPAK 2: last deliveries and maintenance

The last deliveries of the MICROPAK 2 will be made on 30th June 2018 at the latest. MICROPAK 2 maintenance will be ensured for at least seven years starting from 1st July 2018.

MICROPAK 3: presentation and delivery

The MICROPAK 3 will be presented at the Intertraffic trade fair in Amsterdam from 20 to 24 March 2018. The MICROPAK 3 will be available from 1st June 2018 onwards.

NANTERRE, 6 October 2017

New LPR sensor SURVISION launched

SURVISION announces the launch of the NANOPAK 3, to replace the NANOPAK 2

Optimised performance

The NANOPAK 3, which like the NANOPAK 2 is mainly intended for access control and public parking applications, is based on a new ultra-compact platform developed by SURVISION. It offers a number of improvements compared to the NANOPAK 2.

High-frequency processing (up to 60 images per second) and an ultra-high-definition optical sensor allows for improved detection and recognition performances, all the while proposing greater coverage width.

The major new functionalities offered include a high-definition, real-time, H264 and RTSP video stream, compatible with standard video recorders without any special integration. The NANOPAK supports new protocols, notably NTP, SFTP and 802.1x for data security.

The NANOPAK 3 integrates new technologies developed by SURVISION, in particular, the Plate Fingerprint (digital plate signature) and DoubleTrigger (number plate recognition triggered by external events).

Easier to install and configure than the NANOPAK 2 (no Focus adjustment required), the NANOPAK 3 has the same approvals and certifications as the NANOPAK 2 (EMC EN 55032; IEC 62471…), as well as UL certification, which is mainly required in North America.

Unchanged software integration

The NANOPAK 3 requires the use of the SURVISION CDK (Camera Development Kit), made available to integrators three years ago and compatible with both WINDOWS and LINUX x86 and x64 platforms. It is not compatible with the old SDK. On the other hand, already developed applications based on the CDK are completely compatible with the NANOPAK 3, as well as with all sensors of the SURVISION range, regardless of model or generation.

SURVISION integrator partners can now also acquire the S version of the CDK (CDK-S) which enables them to access the CDK source code and consequently to compile on any platform.

Identical mechanical integration

The dimensions, weigh and fixation points of the NANOPAK 3 are identical to those of the NANOPAK 2. The NANOPAK 3 can therefore replace a NANOPAK 2 without any mechanical changes. The NANOPAK 3 can notably be installed in the second generation NANOPAK TOTEM. The NANOPAK 3 uses a 24V power supply and supports temperatures ranging from -20° to +55°.

NANOPAK 2 last orders, delivery and maintenance

Customers can order the NANOPAK 2 up until 28 february 2018 for a delivery on 31 October 2018 at the latest. NANOPAK 2 maintenance will be available for a minimum of 7 years, starting from 1 January 2018 and up until 31 December 2024.

NANOPAK 3 orders and delivery

NANOPAK 3 orders will be accepted from this day for delivery from 1 November 2017. The NANOPAK 3 is available in three versions depending on the functional requirements of the project for which it is intended.

For more information on the NANOPAK 3 features, please consult the sensor datasheet.

Vehicle categorization with SURVISION cameras

With the VSI versions of the VISIPAK and MICROPAK cameras, SURVISION can now provide vehicle and traffic management solutions which offer automatic vehicle categorisation.

The VSI (Vehicle Signature Identification) versions of the SURVISION MICROPAK and VISIPAK cameras provide in real time a signature of the front of a vehicle, regardless of its type (passenger car, lorry, bus, light commercial vehicle, special vehicle). This signature is based on algorithms patented by SURVISION which make it possible to identify the vehicle in a very precise way, without taking account of the license plate number.

This signature can be compared, in real time, with a database based on the experience of the user and created according to his chosen parameters. The system thus allows for determination in real time of the vehicle category, according to these parameters.

For example, the user can therefore categorise vehicles by make and model, by vehicle motorisation characteristics (combustion-powered or electric), by CO² or fine particle emission levels, by vehicle dimensions, etc.

The VSI SURVISION cameras can thus also be used by car park or road and motorway management companies, local authorities or the forces of law and order for traffic measurement and monitoring in order to implement variable invoicing, fining where there are specific anti-pollution measures, or simply the statistic categorisation of the traffic.

Launch of the VISIPAK 4

SURVISION announces the launch of the new generation VISIPAK (version 4) for the 1st May 2015

The VISIPAK 4 represents a major evolution in image-processing for vehicle detection and identification.

The new generation VISIPAK, version 4 of the sensor created by SURVISION seven years ago, will soon be on the market. This camera, mainly aimed at motorway installations, tunnels, urban and peri-urban areas is very innovative concerning both the material components and the firmware that equips them. Based on ultra-high-definition cameras which function at frequencies of 60 images per second, with these cameras it is possible to improve detection and identification performances, and increase the amount of data provided by a single camera (license plate, dangerous goods plate, speed, nationality, classification, etc...).

The VISIPAK 4 remains true to the technological principles which characterise SURVISION and which have formed our reputation, all the while providing a considerable advantage in terms of image and performance quality:

- Use of a very low level hardware platform (no PC platform),

- Cameras containing a motorised optical zoom enabling them to reach longer distances and/or achieve precise framing of the scene,

- No operating system (Windows, Linux),

- Embedding of all of the algorithms in the sensor, thus eliminating the need for processing servers,

- Maximum security and integrity of the connection to the camera.

The main evolutions of this new generation are the following:

- Full HD colour and B&W ANPR camera,

- Full HD colour and B&W context camera,

- Inclusion of a relay and of a RS485 connection in the camera,

- Change of the generation of LEDs used, resulting in better performances in certain luminosity conditions,

- Optimisation of the mechanical system for greater resistance to environmental conditions (waterproofness, vibrations …),

- Integrated extended temperature as a standard feature (-40° to +55°),

- Reduced weight and greater compactness.

The new generation VISIPAK 4 will be available:

- With or without a context camera,

- In an ANPR version (Automatic Number Plate Recognition),

- In an ANPR-S version (ANPR + calculation of instantaneous speed + braking distance + signature on the plate),

- In an ADGR version (Automatic Dangerous Goods Recognition),

- In a video version for context or 3/4 view,

In a VCI version (classification of vehicles by measuring the length, the height, the width and the number of axles),

- In a VSI version (categorisation of vehicles by signature on the radiator grill).

The VISIPAK 4 fixation and connection interfaces are identical to those of the previous versions. The VISIPAK 4 can therefore easily be exchanged for a VISIPAK 3, VISIPAK 2, MICROPAK 1 or MICROPAK 2. The VISIPAK 4 is compatible with the additional LUMIPAK projector, required for context view at night and for classification.

The old generation VISIPAK will no longer be manufactured or distributed from 1st May 2015 onwards. Orders for this model can be accepted up until 31 March 2015.

SURVISION equips the A10 and A11 French motorways

Along with with our partner CITILOG, SURVISION has been chosen to provide COFIROUTE (a member of the VINCI CONCESSIONS group) with a solution for the A10 and A11 motorways which alerts motorists who do not respect speed and safety limits.

This application called “TROP VITE TROP PRES” (too fast, too close) is a pedagogical warning system aimed at reducing accidents and pollution and reinforcing user safety. It is based on an application produced by CITILOG and exploits the data provided by the SURVISION cameras. The SURVISION sensors provide the vehicle licence plate number, its instantaneous speed and safety distance in relation to the vehicle in front, as well as a classification based on the measurements of length, height, width and the number of axles. All this data is calculated by image processing fromusing specialized video cameras and therefore no devices on the road surface are required. The data is displayed dynamically on Dynamic Messaging Boards placed on the approach of the zone in order to warn drivers.

First implemented on the COFIROUTE motorways, this is now a comprehensive solution available for all route and motorway management companies.

SURVISION equips the Puerto-Rico free-flow gantries

SURVISION has been chosen by SANEF-ITS (ABERTIS group), a world leader in the area of free-flow tolls, to equip the gantries of the METROPISTAS motorway management company.

These gantries are used to monitor and charge on the fly vehicles taking the PR-22 motorway. SURVISION provides its VISIPAK sensors which are used to read vehicle license plates. SURVISION also reveals its new concept, the combining of a MICROPAK camera with a LUMIPAK high-power strobe in order to obtain a perfectly contrasted view of the entire vehicle, both day and night, on sites not equipped with surrounding lighting. This view is used by the Back Office operators in order to confirm the vehicle class, which determines the pricing system. This image allows us to evaluate the length, the height and the number of axles per vehicle.

This project is an opportunity for SURVISION to deploy its sensors on US territory for the first time on such a large scale, thus opening up new development perspectives in North America.

SURVISION cameras classify vehicles

The VCI versions of its VISIPAK and MICROPAK cameras have enabled SURVISION to provide a particularly efficient classification of vehicles.

The VCI (Vehicle Classification Identification) versions of the SURVISION MICROPAK and VISIPAK de SURVISION cameras provide in real time an extremely precise measurement of the length, the height and the number of axles of vehicles travelling under an overhead motorway installation. They also make it possible to determine with greater reliability than most existing devices, an indication of the classes to be applied to the vehicle (notably for the requirements of invoicing of road taxes). The device is based exclusively on image processing and no additional trigger device is needed. The processing is carried out even at very high speed or when there is very heavy traffic.

In this way, the SURVISION VCI cameras provide a high-performance alternative, easier to deploy and less expensive than the devices based on cameras integrated in the road surface or lasers. These new technologies, which have been patented, are already available for integrators, notably for free-flow toll applications.

SURVISION integrates number plate recognition into barriers

The integration of the NANOPAK into the barrier column has enabled SURVISION to further reduce the cost of number plate recognition applications.

Using the NANOPAK, the world’s smallest number plate recognition camera, SURVISION has created a system which allows for the integration of number plate recognition directly into barrier columns. This makes it possible to film number plates at a very short distance in toll lanes and parking lanes. The NANOPAK barrier resolves the problems which motorway and car-park management companies are faced with when installing number plate recognition cameras (discretion, appearance, performance on tailgating vehicles …). It also allows for a significant reduction in the installation costs of number plate recognition cameras by limiting the extent of the required civil engineering works.

In order to perfect this device, which has been patented, particular attention was paid to the aspects of miniaturization and the processing of lateral angles. It is now available in the barriers of LBA, a SURVISION partner.

SURVISION equips the car-parks of Roissy airport

The SURVISION VISIPAK-VSI cameras control the access to Paris airport car-parks.

The VSI version of the SURVISION VISIPAK cameras was selected by ADP (Aeroports of Paris) to equip the car-park entries of the Roissy airport hub. Integrated into the car-park systems of THALES, the VISIPAK-VSI cameras identify the vehicles entering and exiting the car-parks by means of the number plate on the one hand and the analysis of the signature of the vehicle radiator grill on the other. The comparison between the entry and exit of this data make it possible to combat fraud on the one hand and vehicle theft on the other. The automatic extraction in real time of this data also makes it possible to provide a certain number of services to the public, for example, the automatic opening of exit barriers or the elimination of overcharging in the case of a lost ticket.

The system works both night and day and on all vehicle types. The matriculation data, like the information on the radiator grill are made available to integrators of the world of access control by means of the SURVISION SDK.

SURVISION participates in MovCity project

With MovCity, the SURVISION cameras help reduce pollution and contribute to urban automobile traffic management.

At certain periods of the year, the concentration levels of CO2 and of fine particles can represent a serious risk to public health. According to the French Minister for Health, Philippe Martin, this pollution costs the country between 20 and 30 milliards euros per year. Should the levels be significantly exceeded, France also risks being condemned by European law to fines of several tens of millions of Euros.

As the implications of this issue are enormous, SURVISION has become involved in MovCity, a complete traffic management solution for cities which makes it possible to measure and manage the traffic and, notably to reserve the access to city centres to certain categories of vehicle (public transport, car-pooling, priority or low emission vehicles…). The solution is based on the combination of SURVISION number plate recognition cameras and UHF antennas; it is an essential tool for a significant, immediate and perennial impact on pollution levels in urban areas.

Launch of the NANOPAK

SURVISION now proposes its integrator partners the world’s most compact all-in-one number plate recognition camera.

Weighing 640 grams, and the height of a mobile phone, the NANOPAK incorporates all of the system (infrared illumination, video camera, image processing and IP communication) which enable it to read number plates in all conditions of speed and light at a very short distance and up to some 15 metres. Thanks to its compact size and light weight, it can read number plates in all speed and luminosity conditions at a very short distance and up to 15 metres. Its size and weight also mean that it can be integrated into the most restrictive environments, for example, inside a vehicle cab or in the column of a barrier.

For more information, see the NANOPAK data sheet.

SURVISION launch the new generation MICROPAK on 1 February 2014

The new generation MICROPAK will, like the previous generation, be available in ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) version, in ADGPR (Automatic Dangerous Goods Plate Recognition) version and in video version (provision of an optimised video stream for contextual views).

Both cameras have the same weight, the same volume and the same fixation and connection interfaces.

The new generation MICROPAK strictly respects the SURVISION software integration protocol so that the applications developed for the previous version are still compatible.

The main evolutions of this new generation are:

 - A 24V power supply (instead of 12V).

- Inclusion of a relay in the camera in order to be able to interface directly with a barrier without passing through an external relay.

- Change of generation for the LEDs and for the optical camera leading to better performances in certain luminosity conditions.

- Optimisation of the internal architecture of the camera which reduces the amount of time needed for maintenance operations and ensures a longer camera life.

The previous generation MICROPAK will therefore no longer be manufactured and distributed as from 1 April 2014. Orders will still be accepted for this model up until 31 March 2014.

SURVISION wins the French market for equipping vehicles of the security forces

The administrative Body UGAP (Union des Groupements d’Achats Publics), acting on behalf of the French Ministry of the Interior, has attributed to GRUAU, one of SURVISION’s distribution partners, the Automatic Number Plate Recognition market for the detection and identification of wanted vehicles.

This will involve the equipping of at least 350 vehicles over a three-year period. As from late 2010, these vehicles will be provided to the National Police, the French Gendarmerie and the Customs.

The equipping of the vehicles involves the installation of BLUEPAK lightbars which are pre-equipped with number plate and video-surveillance cameras connected to an Embedded Computing Terminal with a tactile interface designed specifically for the security forces. Video streams can also be recorded by means of a special recorder.

Thanks to a number of technological innovations, this solution represents a real revolution in the area of vehicle identification:

- All electronic parts embedded and hidden in the lightbars.
- Capacity to carry out number plate recognition from a number of different axes and at very high speeds.
- Capacity to survey the area surrounding the security vehicle.
- Tactile and particularly ergonomic interface, both simple and intuitive, so that the team can continue to carry out its traditional tasks at the same time.

Some of the vehicles equipped in this way will combine functions of detection of wanted vehicles, video-surveillance of the area surrounding the vehicle, and assistance in prosecution procedures, i.e. the first realization of the concept L2V (License Plate Recognition, Video Surveillance, Automatic Fine Application Procedure). As three distinct tasks are carried out by the same vehicle, team and equipment, this allows for a more efficient use of staff and equipment.

Airport drop-off zones monitored by SURVISION MICROPAKs

SURVISION and the company ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) BPS UK have equipped several airport Drop-Off Zones with systems of access control by number plate recognition.

The entries and exits of Drop-Off Zones of the airports of Luton, Newcastle and Aberdeen are now monitored by the SURVISION MICROPAK number plate recognition cameras, providing the operators with efficient automatic control of the vehicle parking times. A vehicle parked for a period exceeding the allowed time must obtain a parking permit.

Apart from the economic benefit of this application by airport management companies (for whom parking is one of the main sources of revenue), this enables a more fluid access to the Drop-Off Zones, preventing them from becoming unauthorised parking areas.

This type of application is certain to become widespread in train stations and airports in coming years.

Rueil-Malmaison, 31 May 2010

SURVISION and its partner, the Toulouse company STERELA, are extending the implementation of Weight-in-Motion applications for trucks on behalf of the French Ministry of Equipment (MEEDDM).

Tens of sites have already been, or are in the process of being equipped, mainly on motorways.

The contribution of SURVISION to the solution consists in supplying the camera which allows for recognition of truck number plates at high speed, while also providing a lateral view day or night. This information allows for the interception after the check-point by the CRS (Republican Security Companies) of the French National Police or by the Gendarmerie of trucks whose load exceeds the maximum allowed by French legislation.

An overloaded truck requires a longer braking distance, and is therefore a very serious danger for other national and international road network users. A truck which is overloaded overall, or on a particular axle, also means an exponential wear of the infrastructure due to the excess weight. The verification of truck Weight-in-Motion is therefore a vital issue for road management companies. An overloaded truck may also be a cause of unfair competition between transport companies, some of which may respect the regulations more than others.

In becoming a key player in the area of number plate recognition for the Weigh- in-Motion of trucks, SURVISION confirms its commitment to road safety and to the optimizing of public infrastructures, whether or not they are under private management.

Survision launches the most compact and most complete integrated number plate recognition camera ever brought on the market

SURVISION is pleased to announce the launch of the MICROPAK ANPR, an ultra-compact camera for number plate recognition.

This camera, enclosed in a waterproof stainless steel casing no bigger than a paperback book, integrates all the necessary equipment for number plate recognition: camera, pulsated infra-red illumination, image-processing electronic components, etc…

The camera does not require any other device. The number plates are automatically supplied by the camera using IP protocol, along with a set of optional associated data (nationality, traffic direction, JPEG image of vehicle, video stream in real time, etc.). The number plate can also be supplied through RS232 protocol, and the camera is capable of providing an all-or-nothing contact (for the opening of a barrier, for example) and of relaying serial commands and providing a 12V power supply (for the control and the power supply of a pan-tilt engine, for example).
Its integrated IR illumination enables the ANPR MICROPAK to read number plates in all illumination conditions. The real-time video-processing carried out in internally in the camera makes it possible to read the number plates of passing vehicles, even at high speed. A 10-images per second version is available for access control, while the 25-images/second version is suited for urban or peri-urban applications and a 50-images/second version allows for the implementation of particularly effective motorway applications, even with very extreme angles and with vehicles passing at very high speeds. The quality of the algorhythms and the motorization of all of the parameters of the camera (zoom, iris) mean that the same camera can be used for a wide diversity of installations (varying angles and distance).
A very complete SDK and the adjustment tools supplied allow installers and integrators to implement rapidly and at limited cost all types of applications: access control for public and private car-parks, urban and motorway surveillance for security forces, free-flow toll booths or control posts in a motorway lane for motorway management companies, calculation of journey time for local authorities, etc…

SURVISION technology chosen to monitor the taxi lane at Charles-de-Gaulle airport

SURVISION chosen for the monitoring of the taxi lane between Charles de Gaulle Airport and Paris.

Survision has been chosen, together with its partner SEMERU SATELEC, to provide the DIRIF (Île-de-France Road Management) with an application which allows for the real-time control of access to the traffic lane reserved for taxis travelling between the Charles De Gaulle airport and Paris.

The application will allow for the prosecution of non-authorized vehicles travelling on this lane. The aim is to increase traffic fluidity of taxis and buses and to reduce considerably the transport time for the users of public transport between the airport and Paris. The implementation of this device will also allow for a significant increase in the number of taxis available in Paris during rush hour.

The application is based on a combination of technologies developed by Survision for both number plate recognition and taxi sign identification. It is deployed using the VISIPAK MPEG-OV developed by the company. This camera contains all of the infra-red filming equipment in a compact waterproof casing.
